2024 EAUN Guidelines
For the first time in 10 years, the European Association of Urology Nurses has updated the guidelines for urethral intermittent catheterisation in adults.
As healthcare professionals, it is important to reduce and prevent the occurrence of UTIs. Unfortunately, IC-associated UTIs are multi-factorial and many factors need to be considered, making it potentially difficult to prevent and solve. The guidelines on intermittent catheterisation of the European Association of Urology Nurses offers practical guidance on these factors and the procedure1. The guidelines was last updated in 2014.
Introduction to the updated guidelines

The EAUN Guidelines highlights the UTI Assessment Tool
In section 12.5 of the guidelines, the UTI Assessment Tool developed by Coloplast is highlighted as a practical resource for healthcare professionals:
“The UTI Assessment Tool for intermittent catheter users is designed to help healthcare professionals assess UTI risk factors in a systematic way, while engaging users and taking their perspective into account".4
